“Marcello Pontillo” International Competition for Musical Interpretation Florence 2019

Sala Vanni

The International Competition of Musical Interpretation “Marcello Pontillo” will take place in Florence, in the Sala Vanni, in Piazza del Carmine n.19, on 11, 12, 13 October 2019. All the performances of the musicians, both the rehearsals and the final, will be open to the public. The peculiarity of the competition is the evaluation not only of the technical and interpretative level of the competitors, but also of their ability to create a program that proposes a coherent, original musical program to the public. The competition, dedicated to Marcello Pontillo, former president of the Nuovo Contrappunto Ensemble, and a passionate supporter of young musical talents, who died prematurely in September 2017, is perhaps one of the most significant pieces of the kaleidoscopic program of the 16th edition of the festival Suoni Riflessi: a creative and stimulating musical journey through the history of classical music, studded with fascinating cultural combinations.

“The International Musical Interpretation Competition “Marcello Pontillo” has as its main objective to create an opportunity of importance for young musicians. It comes from the Suoni Riflessi Festival, whose founding purpose is to make music a participatory and engaging language in its executive expression, open to an audience of enthusiasts interested in the profound aspects of this art and culture in general. At the same time, it wants to stimulate in young people the musical and communicative quality of their performances, the search for design lines in their programs, the communication with the public as an essential artistic direction “.

The competition, as indicated in the regulation, is open to soloist musicians (instrumentalists and singers) and groups from the duo to the sextet, with an age between 16 and 32, calculated on 11.10.2019, the day of the start of the competition. In the case of groups, the average age of the members is calculated, but this average must not exceed 32 years on 11.10.2019. Who wants to register for the competition must send the application form by e-mail, using the appropriate form. Deadlilne September 21, 2019. Participation fee for the competition, to be paid upon registration: € 70 for the soloist and € 40 for each member of chamber music groups

The first and second round, on 11 and 12 October 2019, will take place at the Sala Vanni in Piazza del Carmine, Florence, will start at 10.00 and will follow the schedule established and published on the Information page of the contest website. The times of the second round will be defined after the results of the first, communicated directly to the candidates and then published on the site.

The final round, on October 13, 2019, will always take place at the Sala Vanni, starting at 11.00 am, proceeding according to the schedules communicated to the candidates and published on the website, in front of the audience of members of the Suoni Riflessi 2019 Festival.

The Secretariat will establish timetables (necessarily limited) for acoustic and piano tests in the halls. The competitors will have two study rooms at the L. Cherubini Conservatory in Florence – Piazza delle Belle Arti, 2, 50122 Florence – on days 11 and 12 on time 10 – 16 second shifts organized by the Secretariat.

The jury is particularly prestigious, composed by the conductor Aldo Ceccato, the cellist Alain Meunier, the flutists Mario Ancillotti and Pierre Wavre, the pianist Matteo Fossi.

Voting will be expressed in an arithmetic score, as a result of the average of the votes formulated by the individual Commissioners and published on the website and on the notice board. In the event of equality, the judgment of the President of the Jury shall prevail. The decisions of the Commission are final and cannot be appealed. The Commission reserves the right to have access only partially or none to further tests if the performances do not reach the necessary artistic level.
