The second edition of the Zodiac International Music Competition, in the context of the Zodiac Music Academy & Festival, will take place in the splendid scenario of Southern France, next summer 2020. The intent is to discover and promote talented musicians and composers, coming from all over the world and without age limits. The competition represents a great opportunity for artists who otherwise would not have the chance to compete. In fact, only a video presentation for the soloist category and a score for the composers category is required to participate. The winning soloist will receive, in addition to a cash prize, also the round-trip air ticket and accommodation to hold a chamber music and / or solo recital on the Côte d’Azur. The winning composer will be offered the commission for a composition for the Zodiac Trio made up of the founders of the Festival, now very well known internationally, or for one of its members, as well as a cash prize. The work will be performed in New York at the DiMenna Center for Classical Music, as well as at the Zodiac Music Academy & Festival in Southern France in July.
The competition is open to artists of any nationality, without age limits, in the following categories:
1) Soloists: piano, string instruments (violin, viola, cello, double bass), wind instruments (flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone).
The deadline for the application is April 1, 2020. The registration fee is $ 55 USD (50 euros). For those who register in advance, by 15 January 2020, the discounted rate is only $ 35 USD (40 euros).
These are the soloist category awards:
1st prize: $ 500 cash prize and Recital (repertoire to be discussed on an individual basis) at the Zodiac Music Academy & Festival in July 2020 with audio / video recording of the performance, as well as diploma and trophy. The prize includes round-trip airfare to Nice, France, from anywhere in the world, hotel accommodation, local transportation and meals.
2nd prize: $ 250 cash prize and diploma
3rd prize: diploma
Awards for the composition category:
1st prize: $ 500 cash prize and commission to write a work (up to 10 minutes) for The Zodiac Trio or its individual members in any combination. World premiere performance at the Zodiac Music Academy & Festival in France in July 2021. Meals and accommodation at the Zodiac Music Academy & Festival (for composers wishing to attend the exhibition). Performance at the DiMenna Center for Classical Music in New York in the fall of 2020. Audio / video recording of the performance and Diploma.
2nd prize: cash prize of $ 250
3rd prize: diploma
Participants are required to register online, also presenting a short curriculum and a minimum of two videos, with a total viewing time of no more than 30 minutes and possibly unpublished, in a single continuous shooting. Videos must be uploaded to YouTube, Vimeo or any other online video hosting service and links sent as part of the application form.
Participants in the composition section are asked to send two scores in PDF format, along with a link to a SoundCloud recording.
The winner of the soloist category will hold a recital at the Zodiac Music Academy & Festival 8th Season, which will take place from 2 to 15 July 2020 in various places on the French Riviera. The recital will include chamber music selections in collaboration with the Academy’s teaching staff and possibly with students: the specific repertoire will be agreed between the Festival and the winner.
The winner’s recital will be broadcast live on Facebook and published on the website.
The winner of the composition category will be invited to write a work (up to 10 minutes) for the Zodiac Trio or its members. The work will receive its first world performance in North America at the DiMenna Center for Classical Music in New York during the 2020-21 season (exact date to be determined) while the first European performance will be held in France at the Zodiac Music Academy & Festival, in July 2021. The winning piece will be published on the website in PDF format, along with the videos of the performances.
