Caterina Isaia

Caterina was born in October 2002 and has been playing the cello since the age of nine.
In 2011 she approached the study of cello by attending the preparatory courses of the “Donizetti” Musical Conservatoire of Bergamo with Maestro Flavio Bombardieri.
In 2012 she passed her audition with Maestro Marianne Chen, with whom she continued her studies. In March of the same year she won the first prize at the International Competition “Un po ‘di Note” in Rovigo.
In 2013 Caterina continues to obtain prestigious awards, winning the first prize: at the 5th International Competition “Giovani Musicisti – Città di Treviso”; at the VI ° National Competition of Musical Execution “Città Piove Di Sacco”; at the III ° International Competition “Mozart” of Quinto Vicentino; at the “Crescendo 2013” International Prize of Florence and finally at the XXV ° “European Music Competition” of Moncalieri (To).
In 2014 she won the first prize: at the IX ° International Competition of Musical Execution “Città di Asti”; at the IV ° National Music Competition “Civica Scuola di Musica-Fondazione Milano”; at the XXXIV ° International Music Competition “Città di Stresa”; at the 19th National Instrumental Competition “Città di Giussano”, where in addition to the first prize, the “Gabrio Piola” scholarship was awarded; in November she won the first prize at the XXII ° International Music Competition “Premio Caffa Righetti – Cortemilia”.
From 2015 Caterina studied with the cellist Monika Leskovar, under whose guidance she won the first prize: at the 6th “Antonio Salieri” International Young Musicians Competition Città di Legnago (VR); at the “Amici dell’Arte – Adopt a musician” Prize of Forlì where, in addition to the scholarship won, she also won the audience award;
at the VI ° National Competition of Musical Interpretation “E. Sollima” where she won, in addition to the soloists section, also the chamber music section. In December she won the first prize at the Mantua Music Competition , chamber music section.
Despite her young age, Caterina has solo recitals at prestigious concert seasons in various Italian cities: Verona, Milan, Bergamo, Palermo, Syracuse, Messina, Rovereto, Venice, Forlì, Bologna, Mantova, Alessandria and Trento.
Her debut with orchestra took place at the age of twelve as part of the “Secco-Suardo Festival “in Bergamo, where she played, as a soloist with orchestra, Haydn Cello Concerto n.1 in C major.
In 2016 she won the first prize: at the “Premio Contea” International Competition of the City of Treviso; at the VI ° Music Competition “C. Abbado “- Milan Foundation; at the 1st “Scuole in Musica” Competition – City of Verona
and at the 1st Competition “Città di Cremona” , both solo and chamber music section.
On 6 April, Caterina recorded at the “Casa Mozart” in Rovereto, for the Italian National Television RAI2 and on the 2nd of October Caterina inaugurated the “Alfredo Piatti” international cello festival with a solo recital.
On October 22nd, Caterina won the first prize at the prestigious “Antonio Janigro – International Cello Competition” competition, in Porec, Croatia, where she was also awarded, as special prize, an invitation to perform a solo concert with the Orchestra. “Zagreb Soloists” in September of the same year.
In January 2017 Caterina passed an audition at the prestigious international school for special talents “Yehudi Menuhin School” in London where she was admitted as a scholar for the academic year 2017/18 under the guidance of Bartholomew LaFollette and Matthijs Broersma.
In September 2017 she was admitted to the Sommerliche Musikakademie in Hamburg by M ° Jens Peter Maintz as the youngest participant and she was selected to play in the final concert of the masterclass.
Caterina inaugurated the 114 season of the ”Bergamo Quartet Society”with a solo cello recital in December 2017.
The artistic direction of Yehudi Menuhin School chose Caterina for a tour of seven concerts in Scotland in May 2018 where she played in Edinburgh (Cannongate Kirk), Blair Atholl Castle, New Lanark, Hippodrome Eyemouth and Berwick (The Maltings Theater).
The Yehudi Menuhin School orchestra toured in Spain where Caterina was selected by the Director of Music as the leader of the cello section.
They performed at Auditorium in Zaragoza, Auditorium of Superior Conservatory of Valencia, Pau Casals Auditorium and Juan March Foundation (Madrid).
As well as playing solo, Caterina has been working with her quartet which performed works by Mendelssoh, Beethoven, Mozart, Schubert,Debussy as well as piano quintets by Dvorak and Schumann during the annual Yehudi Menuhin Summer Festival. In April 2019 Caterina was selected for the “Mit Musik – Miteinander” project of the Kronberg Academy (Germany) as well as being selected by Ivan Monighetti to participate at the Gstaad Menuhin Academy 2019. Caterina performed Schumann Cello Concerto with Marlborough Concert Orchestra in London in December 2019. In January 2020 , Caterina has been invited to perform with the Nicola Benedetti Foundation, as a part of the Benedetti sessions held in Southbank Centre, London.
In February 2020 Caterina has received the First prize at the “14th Jan Vychytil International cello competition” (Prague) and a special award offered by the Jan Spidlen atelier. Caterina has been invited to perform with Giovanni Sollima ,by the acclaimed pianist Beatrice Rana, at the 2020 Classiche Forme Festival, to be held in July 2020. She participated in masterclasses with Ivan Monighetti, Giovanni Sollima, Giovanni Gnocchi, Mario Brunello, Jens Peter Maintz, Robert Levin, Leonard Elshenbroich, Colin Carr and David Waterman.
