ON THE BRIDGE, Vocal Chords

It is a nice debut CD for the young formation of cellists On the Bridge Ensemble, who avail themselves of the collaboration of the soprano Carlotta Colombo for the occasion.

“For our debut recording project, we have decided to focus on composers from distant ages. The modern and contemporary repertoires aim to maintain a link with the ancient musical tradition through the careful selection of pieces with a stylistic form inspired by the past”

So CD proposes a journey along the history of music from John Dowland to today, highlighting the expressive contrasts and the formal continuity that binds composers of very different styles and periods. From the poignant and composed sweetness of John Dowland, to the ironic and sparkling classicism of Britten, from the spiritual reflection of Giovanni Maria Nannino to the contemporary “Toccata” of Francesco Cerrato, from the classicism of Rameau, to the recreation of the Suite by Pierre Petit and, to conclude, a direct comparison between Bach and Villa-Lobos.

The young cellists of the group already demonstrate an excellent ability to create a dense, polite dialogue between their instruments. A dialogue where everyone makes their point of view heard, but without overwhelming others and always respecting the rules of a good education. A good look and a good interpretative personality, accompanied by constant attention to the beauty of sound, the precision of the attacks, and emotional harmony. And among the notes, their freshness and their desire to have fun together feel palpable.

In the CD booklet you can find, a brief presentation of the young performers, coordinated by Stefano Cerrato: the soul and guide of the group. On the CD, all the young members of the ensemble demonstrate their solid training, their good chamber music experience, and above all their desire to continue the path they started in 2019 at the International Music Festival of Portogruaro
